GREYHOUND RACING

Greyhound dogs race at over 50 tracks in America, in 18 states. Florida is the top greyhound racing state.

On an average night greyhound tracks will run 13 races, with eight dogs in each race.

When the race begins, a mechanical rabbit zooms around the track, and the dogs run in hot pursuit of this rabbit.

The most common distances run in greyhound races are: 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, and 9/16 of a mile.

There are many different levels that greyhounds run, and the largest purse won by a greyhound was $152,800 by a dog named Bomb Threat on May 27, 1996.
